Getting started with Auror LPR: pilot insights and stories

OUTCOMES:

  • $145 average event value associated with a Vehicle of Interest (VOI)
  • 63% of VOI alerts involved repeat offenders
  • 22% of VOIs are connected to repeat offenders with known threatening behavior
  • Repeat offenders are 4x more likely to show threatening behavior

A regional supermarket leader in the US recently completed an Auror LPR pilot across six stores for 120 days.

Already leveraging Auror’s Retail Crime Intelligence platform, their team recognized the safety and security benefits of adding intelligent LPR (License Plate Recognition) to the strategy.

The decision

Like many leading retailers, this organization has recognized that a small percentage of repeat offenders are causing a larger percentage of their unrecovered loss and safety events. Their intent with piloting Auror LPR was to identify repeat and known dangerous offenders as they arrived on site, so they can proactively alert store teams.

Prior to Auror LPR, they had tried alternative tools but were finding that they were not accurate or timely. The retailer leverages the Investigate, Connect the Dots, and Insights product modules and felt confident that Auror LPR could further help achieve their desired safety outcomes.

Importantly, the team shared that demonstrated ROI and quality of results with Auror’s intelligence-led LPR were key factors in their decision to pilot the module.

Getting started was seamless. We get an alert right on our phone and it takes us right to the vehicle history, and the subjects involved.

The solution

The retailer chose to start their LPR approach with six stores. Leveraging their chosen camera infrastructure, Auror LPR connects known offenders to vehicles and alerts teams as their vehicle arrives on site. This provides the retailer’s team members with a single-view Retail Crime Intelligence and LPR experience while also empowering stronger collaboration with law enforcement and across functions.

Purpose-built for retailers, Auror LPR also features automatic VOI enrollment, saving time and money typically required by AP/LP teams to create and manage VOI lists. And because it unlocks an impactful intelligence source (vehicles), Auror LPR accelerates investigations where critical collaboration is required across agencies and organizations.

The results

Driven by VOI (vehicle of interest) detections, this retailer has been able to uncover additional insights into repeat offender behavior and patterns. The impact they’re reporting is enabled by strong collaboration within the Auror platform by store teams – sharing updates on VOIs and actioning real-time intelligence for safe preventions.

VOI detection helps identify prolific ORC network

A single VOI alert notified store teams of a person with aggressive behavior shoplifting at this retailer and two other retailers. This subject was linked to a person with threatening behaviors amounting to over $13k in theft. This one vehicle was also connected to three other individuals and two vehicles that triggered VOI alerts at this retailer.

This scenario highlights the extensive network that can be unveiled through just one VOI alert when utilizing Auror’s platform.
