Kiwi-founded tech company Auror has celebrated a decade of working with New Zealand’s major retailers to take on organised retail crime and create safer communities.

Auror is a crime intelligence reporting software operating in New Zealand, with teams spread across the Unites States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, making it easier for retailers to record events and connect with  law enforcement.

Last week, global enterprise retailers and law enforcement joined Auror at the renowned Eden Park Stadium in Auckland to mark the significant milestone and discuss the future of tech in reducing loss and harm in stores.

Auror was founded  by CEO Phil Thomson and co-founders James Corbett and Tom Batterbury to tackle the $150 billion problem of organised retail crime, costing New Zealand retailers $2 million every day.

Since then, Auror has come a long way in re-shaping the retail crime environment - starting out in four Countdown supermarkets across West Auckland, to now working with more than 85 percent of enterprise retailers in New Zealand.

Phil said the milestone was a great opportunity to reflect on the impact the software has made in stopping retail crime.

“Even after 10 years, I’m still as passionate as ever about the work we do to contribute to community safety and I’m excited about what’s to come.”

The anniversary followed Auror’s recent announcement for further global expansion into North America and the United Kingdom with its NZD$82m capital raise, led by investment by NASDAQ-listed Axon Enterprise, Woolworths Group’s investment arm W23 Global, and Sydney-based fund Reinventure.

“While we know tech will never replace the essential work of frontline police, we know the impact it can have to increase productivity and contribute to more efficient policing, and ultimately create safer communities,” Phil said.
