Productivity enhancing tech supporting effective policing

Retail crime in New Zealand costs the economy more than $2.5 billion every year. Globally this is a $150 billion challenge. Retail crime is also largely organised and linked to more serious, at times violent, offending. Put simply - what is often perceived as ‘little crime’ is actually ‘big crime’ with big societal costs.

Auror software for the first time has connected-the-dots of this seemingly disparate high-volume crime type while also addressing, through effective digitisation, the time consuming and labour-intensive challenges for retailers and police of recording, reporting and investigating retail and other offending. What once was provided on CDs and USBs can now be conveyed digitally in a secure private network.

This report seeks to capture some of those potential productivity benefits associated with New Zealand Police use of Auror from June 2022 - July 2023.

Highlights include:

  • $92m in workforce productivity gains
  • 170,000 hours of capability uplift
  • Equivalent to 451 additional police officers
  • Redirection / conservation of 6.8m kilometres in shorter/fewer car trips.
