Auror’s North American retail partners saw a strong 2025, with millions of events reported and a number of impressive case resolutions.

As part of our 2025 Auror Wrapped campaign, we looked at some of the most compelling retail crime statistics from the North America region.

Safety outcomes were impressive, with 56% of serious behavior events resulting in a positive outcome. A positive outcome is one where the event was prevented, the person of interest (POI) was apprehended, or the POI left the store and goods were recovered.

Not only did this result in hundreds of millions of dollars in stolen items being recovered, but it also meant store teams and customers avoided being harmed in situations involving aggression, physical abuse, or weapons.

Retailers also saw a 188% increase in License Plate Recognition (LPR) sites. This is a huge step forward in proactive retail crime prevention and providing retail teams with the intel they need to keep themselves and their customers safe.

Crucially, 70% of stolen value came from just 10% of POIs. This was the highest percentage out of all the regions Auror operates in. By focusing on the few causing the most harm, Auror’s North American retail partners were able to prevent more crime, harm, and loss.

North America retail case resolutions 2025

As we enter 2026, we wanted to bring a new approach to New Year’s Resolutions: taking a moment to reflect on the retail resolutions of 2025 and setting a goal to resolve even more crime next year.

The following four cases are just a small handful of resolutions our retail partners in North America saw this year. They exemplify the power of collaboration between retailers and police, the role of recognition technologies, and the importance of actionable intel and connecting the dots on crime

These are foundational to driving momentum into the new year and towards even more successful case resolutions.

Retail case resolution #1

A missing person was found and returned to their family thanks to LPR technology at a major retailer.

A local Department of Public Safety issued an alert for this person, with details of their vehicle. Just two hours later, the vehicle was detected via LPR cameras at one of the major retailer’s stores and local law enforcement was contacted.

The person was returned home safely thanks to the LPR alert and the quick actions of the retailer’s Asset Protection team.

Vehicle recognition technology isn’t just for preventing crime. As this case shows, it can become invaluable in situations of missing persons and other community safety incidents, where every second counts.

Retail case resolution #2

More than $950K worth of stolen goods were recovered – including 120+ items worth $42K from one retailer alone – thanks to excellent retailer collaboration using Auror’s platform.

This collaboration and evidence gathering led to a search warrant being executed at a shipping facility. The $950K+ worth of goods were in the facility about to be shipped out of the country.

Several retailers worked together to gather evidence and connect the dots on the group's offending, leading to the execution of the search warrant.

Authorities discovered the goods as part of an ongoing pursuit of an organized retail crime group targeting stores across the country.

This is a prime example of how consistent event reporting, dot connection, and working with other retailers and law enforcement can result in a positive outcome for those impacted.

Retail case resolution #3

A prolific repeat offender responsible for over $650K in stolen value at a retailer in the United States was arrested thanks to exceptional team work and collaboration on the Auror platform.

The retailer's ORC team notified the relevant stores that this person was heading in their direction. Equipped with this information and a photo of the person, store teams successfully deterred the offender at several store locations.

Through Auror's platform, store teams continued to alert their colleagues at other stores nearby about this person's location. Finally, after the offender broke a display, police were called and arrested the offender.

This was a superb show of teamwork showcasing the power of using actionable intelligence to prevent violence, while protecting retail teams and customers.

Retail case resolution #4

Vehicle recognition technology helped law enforcement arrest an offender responsible for $16K+ in stolen value across 14 events.

An Auror retail partner received a Vehicle of Interest (VOI) alert and noticed it was tied to 14 other events totalling over $16K in Auror. One of the suspects linked to this vehicle entered the store a little while later to commit gift card fraud.

After they left the store, they were apprehended by law enforcement.

When the vehicle was seized, police discovered hundreds of dollars in cash, several gift and credit cards, mobile phones and a small photo used to make fraudulent ID cards.

The offender also had six open warrants and further investigation revealed this person was a suspect in a large scale gift and credit card fraud operation.

A great example of how vehicle recognition technology can play a crucial part in identifying and stopping repeat offenders, as well as disrupting larger criminal operations.

Continuing the momentum into 2026 and beyond

Through consistent reporting, quality intelligence, strong police partnerships, and connecting the dots, North American retailers continued to disrupt repeat offending and crime groups across the continent in 2025.

With continuous focus on these proven crime prevention tactics, as well as an eye on our collective goal of reducing violent retail crime by 50% in five years, Auror’s retail partners are set up for a successful year ahead.

We look forward to seeing what 2026 brings!
